About ForgeCode

ForgeCode is an open-source coding harness that lives inside ZSH rather than replacing your shell with its own REPL. You type a colon to address it and it answers in place, which means custom aliases, Oh My Zsh plugins and the rest of an existing shell setup keep working while the agent slots in alongside them — a meaningfully lower-friction install than tools that ask you to move into a separate terminal application. Architecturally it is multi-agent with bounded context: specialised sub-agents handle research, planning and execution so each step runs against a minimal, relevant slice of the codebase instead of one ballooning window, and a separate context engine navigates large repositories and applies fast tool corrections that keep smaller local models on track. It connects to hundreds of LLM providers natively from the shell, and mixing models within one session is explicit — a thinking model to plan, a fast model to write code, a long-context model for large files, without restarting. The team publishes benchmark results on TermBench 2.0 and describes running thousands of evaluations across coding tasks and models before each release. Installation is a single curl-to-shell command. The project is open source on GitHub with a public issue tracker, fork count and release history.
