textbee turns an Android phone into an SMS gateway, letting applications send and receive text messages through a SIM you already pay for instead of through a carrier aggregator. You install the open-source Android app, generate an API key from the dashboard, scan a QR code, and the phone becomes an endpoint your code can call over plain REST — no SDK required, and anything that speaks HTTP works. Inbound messages arrive by webhook or API, which makes genuine two-way messaging possible: OTP verification, support inboxes and reply handling, not only outbound alerts. Bulk messaging sends to many recipients in one call, reusable templates carry dynamic variables, messages can be queued up to 72 hours ahead, and up to five phones can be connected on Pro to spread load. The whole stack is on GitHub and self-hostable, so you can audit exactly what handles your messages, and integrations exist for n8n, Zapier, Make and MCP-enabled AI agents. The vendor is refreshingly direct about where this does not fit: if you send a million 2FA codes a day you should use Twilio for guaranteed carrier-grade throughput.
