Python Playground runs real CPython 3.12 in the browser through Pyodide, a WebAssembly port, which means the code executes locally on the machine rather than on a shared server somewhere. That architectural choice cascades through the whole product: there is no queue, no per-execution cost, no sandbox timeout to work around, and the code never leaves the device unless the user opts into cloud sync. The environment ships the standard library plus the popular scientific packages, so matplotlib and plotly charts render inline and data files can be uploaded and worked with directly rather than pasted in as literals. The feature that separates it from the many trivial online REPLs is a genuine debugger — breakpoints, stepping and variable inspection, in the browser, on the free tier — which is the difference between a snippet runner and something you can use to actually understand a piece of code. Work is auto-saved to browser storage as you type, and a playground manager organises multiple files and scripts rather than treating the page as one scratch buffer. The paid tier exists for exactly one reason, honestly stated: unlimited playgrounds and cloud sync across devices and the browser extension, with a gigabyte of upload storage. There is a one-time lifetime option for regular users who would rather not carry another subscription.
