About PDFgen

PDFgen is a PDF generation API for developers who need documents rendered inside a product — invoices, contracts, receipts, tickets, certificates — without running and babysitting headless browser infrastructure themselves. The template step is where the AI sits: describe the document you want in a prompt, or upload an existing PDF to clone, and it builds the template, which can then be refined by prompt or by clicking directly on elements. Dynamic fields are marked in the template using Handlebars syntax with loops and conditionals, so line items, totals and anything else data-driven render correctly, and the template is saved for reuse. Generation is then a single authenticated POST to one REST endpoint carrying a template ID and a JSON data object, returning either the file itself or a short-lived signed URL. HTML and Markdown are accepted as direct inputs alongside saved templates, and both are also exposed as free online converters for one-off use. Multiple API keys, usage logs and per-plan rate limits are built in. Notably for a directory focused on AI search, PDFgen ships an MCP server alongside its API docs, code examples and playground. Credits are counted per five pages and only successful generations are charged, so a failed render does not cost anything.
