OpenStatus is an open-source status page and uptime monitoring stack that you can either self-host or buy as a managed service, and its positioning is sharper than most in the category: the buying trigger it names is the security questionnaire, where SOC 2's CC2.3 criteria asks how you notify customers during an incident and a branded page on your own domain with timestamped incident history answers it in one link. The status page side covers themes, custom domains, public or password-protected access, status reports, maintenance windows and subscriber notifications. The monitoring side probes your endpoints from 28 regions across multiple clouds and alerts through Slack, Discord, PagerDuty, WhatsApp, SMS, OpsGenie, Grafana OnCall, email or webhook, updating the public page automatically so nobody is hand-editing HTML during an outage. What makes it interesting to an agent-shaped team is that every dashboard action is reachable programmatically through one API key by four routes: a CLI, typed HTTP endpoints with an OpenAPI spec, a Terraform provider for versioning monitors as HCL, and an MCP server that lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor run the monitoring directly. A public global speed checker runs any URL against the same probe network with no account. The project is on GitHub with 8k+ stars and is used by Cal.com, Documenso, Traefik and Passbolt.
