On Device AI is a local-first AI workspace for Apple hardware — iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro — that runs more than 190 GGUF and MLX models entirely on the device, with no account, no analytics and full offline operation once a model is downloaded. Custom model imports are free and unrestricted. The product is broader than a chat window: Knowledge Libraries let you ask questions across collections of PDFs, notes, transcripts, saved searches, images and web captures, with retrieval running locally; a meeting recorder transcribes audio on device with speaker labelling and turns recordings into notes and action items; quick notes capture into a default library and can be reused in later chats. Chat Flows compose specialised roles into a small team — research, analysis, writing, review — so a multi-step task runs through several passes without leaving the device. Cloud providers are supported but off until you explicitly configure one, which is the inverse of the usual default and the reason to pick this over a hosted assistant for sensitive material. Automation hooks into Shortcuts, Siri, Calendar and Reminders with per-permission grants and review steps. The vendor makes a point of avoiding unverifiable claims, restricting its marketing to product docs, legal pages and screenshots.
