About TmuxAI

TmuxAI is a terminal assistant that lives inside a tmux window and works the way a colleague sitting next to you would. Rather than wrapping your shell or replacing your terminal emulator, it attaches to an existing tmux session and reads what is currently visible across every pane, then answers questions and proposes commands based on that live context. The design consequence is that it keeps working in places where a shell-integration approach breaks: nested shells, SSH sessions into remote hosts, database CLIs, REPLs and network-equipment consoles all render as text in a pane, so TmuxAI can see and reason about them without any per-tool integration. Asking it to find large files or explain why the last command failed produces a proposed command that you approve, edit or reject before anything executes, which keeps a human in the loop on destructive operations. Setup is a single install script against an existing tmux configuration — no special shell, wrapper or plugin is required — and the project is developed in the open on GitHub. It is aimed at developers and operators who already live in tmux and want contextual help without breaking the muscle memory of their existing setup, and it supports pointing at whichever model provider you prefer rather than locking you to one vendor.
