talat is a local transcription app for Mac and Windows covering three jobs with one on-device engine: recording meetings, dictating by voice, and transcribing files you already have. Every word is processed and stored on your own computer — the stated premise is that what you say should not be sitting on someone else's servers. For meetings it does dual-stream capture with live notes, integrates with Apple and Google Calendar so it is ready when an event starts, and auto-starts when it detects Zoom, Teams, Meet or FaceTime. Transcription is real-time and on-device, with speaker identification that learns voices over time, and AI notes — summary, action items and chapters — generated by a built-in Qwen3.5-4B or a model you point it at, including Claude, OpenAI or a local Ollama. Dictation works from a global hotkey into any app, with optional LLM cleanup that fixes punctuation and filler without rewriting your words, auto-paste into the focused app, and a locally saved history holding both raw and cleaned versions. Imported files cover WAV, MP3, M4A, MP4, FLAC, OGG and AAC, running through the same pipeline including speakers and custom vocabulary, and can be dropped in by hand or handed over by an MCP-aware assistant. Exports go to Markdown, Obsidian, PDF, a webhook, or any MCP client. The download is 14 MB, ten hours are free with no account, and pricing offers both a subscription and a one-time licence.
