Sonar is an app-store optimization tool built specifically for indie app developers, and it argues its case against the incumbent ASO platforms on two axes: price and data provenance. The pitch on provenance is that keyword search volume comes directly from Apple Search Ads and Google Play autocomplete rather than from a modelled estimate, so the numbers a developer optimizes against are the ones the stores themselves report. Every keyword also carries a difficulty score from 0 to 100 derived from competitive analysis of the current top-ten ranking apps, which is the number that tells a solo developer whether a term is worth chasing at all. Once an app is added, Sonar tracks its position on every keyword daily across both stores and all countries, keeps unlimited rank history for as long as the subscription runs, and runs a keyword gap analysis that surfaces terms competitors rank for and you do not. Alerts fire on competitor metadata moves and on ranking drops. A revenue-estimates feature projects monthly revenue, installs, retention and in-app-purchase pricing for any app on the store. For automation there is a REST API, a CLI and an MCP server, so agents like Claude and Cursor can run ASO research against live store data instead of guessing.
