shipdocs.shAbout ShipDocs
ShipDocs generates documentation for private repositories and gives the team a cited AI chat over it, with the explicit positioning that CodeWiki and similar open-source doc generators cannot touch private code. You connect via GitHub, GitLab, a ZIP upload, or a CLI after signup; it scans the repo, produces nine doc modules per repository covering areas like backend, frontend, workers, and CLI, and stands up a project dashboard you can chat with the same afternoon. The differentiator the vendor leans on hardest is citation. Ask where webhook signatures are validated and the answer names the actual path and line — `backend/src/webhooks/verify.ts` line 24, registered via `webhookGuard` in `backend/src/server.ts:48` — rather than inventing a plausible API. Alongside the prose modules it auto-detects components and renders an interactive architecture diagram whose nodes you can click, plus Dockerfile and audit modules. Documentation is exportable as Markdown you own. On security, every project is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM envelope encryption using a unique per-project key, it runs against zero-retention AI endpoints, your code is never used for training, and deletion is a hard purge after a 90-day soft-delete window. Team invites work with plan-based seats so a whole org can share the encrypted docs. The site cites 640+ users onboarded, 18,000+ doc modules generated, 2.1 million files indexed, and roughly two minutes to first docs.
