PDFBolt is a PDF generation API that converts HTML, live URLs or stored templates into documents, with two characteristics that distinguish it from the many wrappers around headless Chrome. The first is the privacy and compliance posture: processing happens in the EU, the product is positioned as GDPR-compliant, and the marketing leads with privacy rather than raw throughput. The second is AI-assisted template authoring. Rather than hand-writing an invoice layout, you describe the layout, data fields and styling in a prompt and optionally attach references — existing PDFs, images, HTML, CSS or JSON, up to five files and 5MB — and it generates a complete HTML/CSS template with Handlebars variables and matching sample data. You then iterate conversationally, review changes in a diff view with a side-by-side PDF comparison, accept or reject them, and copy a ready-to-use code snippet in your language. On the operational side there is an asynchronous endpoint with webhook callbacks signed by HMAC-SHA256, direct delivery to an S3-compatible bucket, configurable page size, margins, headers and footers on every plan, and print-production output — PDF/X-4, PDF/X-1a, CMYK and ICC profiles — from the Growth tier. Published figures are over a million PDFs generated, two thousand-plus developers, a 99.9 percent uptime SLA and roughly two-second average render time. Overage is opt-in in settings rather than automatic, at a per-PDF rate that falls as the plan rises.
