Magnitude is a coding agent built specifically to get frontier-level results out of open-weight models such as GLM, Kimi, and DeepSeek. The argument is an economic one: open weights cost a fraction of frontier-API pricing, so the same monthly spend goes roughly three times further, which translates to more PRs opened, more review done, and more shipped — provided the harness around the model is good enough to keep a weaker model on track. That harness is the product. Magnitude makes malformed tool calls structurally impossible rather than retrying after the fact, implements its own thinking levels so the model neither under-reasons nor burns budget overthinking, and detects circular activity to break the doom loops that open models fall into more readily than frontier ones. The company benchmarks itself on GLM 5.2 and claims to get more out of that model than any other agent. Distribution is a single npm install of the CLI, with $5 in free credits and no card required, and individuals and small teams pay pass-through API pricing with zero data retention. Enterprises can run the whole thing inside their own VPC or data center, deployed and customized with the Magnitude team.
