HyperWhisper is a now fully open-source voice-transcription app for macOS and Windows that works everywhere you can type — email, documents, code, chat — behind a keyboard shortcut. What makes it worth cataloguing separately from the other dictation tools is its provider model. It runs local models entirely offline on a Mac with no internet required, and it also supports bringing your own API keys across an unusually wide set of providers: Groq, xAI Grok, OpenAI, Deepgram, AssemblyAI, ElevenLabs, Mistral and Google Gemini, with full control over each account. Several of those hand out free credits to new users, which the vendor points out openly — Deepgram $200, AssemblyAI $50 — and argues works out significantly cheaper long-run than any subscription. For users who do not want to manage keys there is HyperWhisper Cloud, a built-in pay-as-you-go layer covering thirty-plus models across every provider on one balance and one invoice. Accuracy is claimed at 99% and can be improved with custom vocabulary for technical terms, names and jargon. The privacy documentation is specific rather than gestural: Cloud opts you out of model training on every upstream provider, with your own key that opt-out is stated to be your responsibility, no audio or transcripts are stored, and the vendor invites verification with Proxyman or Little Snitch.
