HoldSpeak is a macOS dictation app whose entire design is one interaction: hold a key, speak, release, and the transcribed words appear wherever the cursor already is, in whatever Mac application you happen to be in. There is no window to switch to, no recording to review and paste, and no per-app integration. Transcription runs one hundred percent on device, which has three consequences the product leans on — it works with no internet connection, no audio ever leaves the machine, and there is no per-minute usage cost, so transcription is unlimited by construction rather than by policy. Over a hundred languages are supported locally. The commercial model follows from the technical one: because there is no inference bill to cover, HoldSpeak is sold as a one-time purchase with lifetime access to the version you bought, rather than as a subscription. Updates are included for a year, after which you can either renew at a discount to keep receiving them or keep using the version you have indefinitely — an honest structure that avoids the common trap where a perpetual licence quietly stops working. It requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14.6 or later, and ships with a seven-day free trial before purchase. Licences are sized by the number of Macs.
