Hey Halo is a voice-first AI assistant that lives in the macOS notch and is on-device by default. It covers a wide surface for a single app: system-wide autocomplete that finishes your sentences in any text field, AI rewrite, reply drafts, voice dictation and natural voice conversation, meeting transcription for calls, a recall layer that remembers what you have seen, a people-and-memory store that behaves like a lightweight CRM, text macros and inline tools, a daily briefing, and automations. The differentiating behaviour is proactivity — Halo watches the day quietly and speaks up when something needs attention, such as a meeting that just moved or a promise still outstanding, which is the part the vendor compares to Jarvis and which most assistants leave to the user to remember. Privacy is the architectural commitment rather than a marketing line: the local tier runs entirely on the Mac using Apple Speech for transcription and a local memory store, with no cloud calls, and it stays free forever. Extensibility comes through MCP plugins. The cloud tier exists only to swap in a frontier model for long chats and large summaries and to reach beyond the Mac into Slack, Teams and Notion, and there is a separately sold licence for pointing Halo at your own server instead — the vendor explicitly says no bundles, no upsells and no enterprise theatre.
