Gatsbi is a desktop-first research assistant that covers four distinct academic workflows in one application rather than positioning itself as another paper writer. Idea discovery takes a research topic and returns ten or more candidate directions with originality scores and supporting references, explicitly framed as gap detection rather than brainstorming. Scholarly writing auto-drafts full manuscripts with equations, figures, in-text citations and real references, covering methodological, experimental, case-study and mixed-methods shapes, and from version 3.0 an integrated deep-research agent collects and synthesises the supporting evidence rather than expecting the user to supply it. The systematic-literature-review and meta-analysis module screens and extracts from literature, generates analytical dimensions, and produces plots and calculations — the part of the workflow that normally consumes weeks. Patent drafting produces structured disclosure material in eleven languages, with the vendor stating clearly that the output is for review by a qualified patent professional rather than for filing. The distribution model is worth noting: native Windows and macOS Apple Silicon builds plus a web version, with the desktop app explicitly sold as private use where the vendor does not record activity. Desktop users can bring their own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google API keys, or use the vendor's hybrid service where token costs are covered and usage is unlimited. The interface ships in ten languages including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Russian.
