Tokonomics is a budget-first AI cost metering proxy that sits between an application and any LLM provider, tracking every token and dollar as it flows through. It covers more than 60 models across 9 providers — OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Mistral, Google Gemini, Groq, xAI and others — and reports around 31ms of proxy overhead. Costs break down per model, per API key and per tag in real time, with tag-based attribution so a request can be assigned to a team, feature, customer or environment and the resulting dollars traced back. Budget alerts fire to email, Slack or Teams at configurable thresholds, hard monthly spending caps are enforced in Redis and return a 429 once hit, and sliding-window rate limits per key protect the budget from runaway batch jobs. The analytics dashboard covers daily spend charts, model breakdowns, latency and cost trends. It is language-agnostic with no vendor lock-in, stores no prompts, encrypts at AES-256, and supports streaming responses.
