Staccato is a text-to-MIDI co-writer that runs as a plugin inside your DAW, and the distinction it draws with the rest of AI music is a real one: it outputs MIDI, not audio. That means the result is editable material — notes, velocities, sections — that you produce with your own instruments and your own sound, rather than a finished render you either accept or discard. It generates up to 16 tracks and 32 bars at once from a prompt, and the conversational loop covers four operations: Create from scratch, Accompany existing material, Rewrite what is there, and Extend it forward. You can upload your own MIDI or audio and have it continue or complement that, so the starting point does not have to be a text prompt at all. Refinement goes down to individual notes and velocities as well as up to the overall feel. Drag and drop moves the result into the project without leaving the session.
