PyGPT is an open-source desktop AI assistant for Linux, Windows and macOS that consolidates an unusually wide set of capabilities into one locally installed application rather than a browser tab. It supports twelve distinct modes of operation covering chat, vision, autonomous agents, image and video generation, tool use and voice control, and it is deliberately provider-agnostic: OpenAI GPT-5, GPT-4 and the o-series and Sora 2 sit alongside Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, xAI Grok, Perplexity Sonar, DeepSeek, Mistral AI, and anything served through Ollama or LlamaIndex. A model editor and importer is included, so adding a provider or a locally served model does not require waiting for the maintainer to ship support. Because it runs on your own machine with your own API keys, conversation data and any files it touches stay local, and local models via Ollama mean it can run with no external calls at all. Distribution is refreshingly plain for a desktop AI app — install from PyPI with pip, from the Snap store, as an AppImage, or from prebuilt 64-bit releases on GitHub. The project maintains a public changelog and a Discord community, and was on release 2.7.12 at the time of verification.
