PrePrompt is a prompt-engineering layer that sits in front of the chat box rather than inside a separate app. It installs as a browser extension that adds a Rewrite button to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity: you type the question the way you would naturally ask a colleague, press Rewrite, and it returns a version with an explicit role, the missing context made explicit, an output format and constraints — the four things prompt-engineering guides tell people to add and almost nobody adds under time pressure. The demonstration on the site is the most convincing part of the pitch, because it shows the before and after side by side across marketing, business, writing, coding and research prompts, so the value is legible in about ten seconds without an account. Beyond the extension it exposes a VS Code integration and an MCP server, which extends the same rewrite engine to coding agents rather than only browser chats. It also runs local checks that do not consume credits — a pass-through check, a clarify check, and a secret scan that catches an API key or token pasted into a prompt before it leaves the machine — and those are unlimited on the paid tiers. Credits meter only the powered rewrites, with a stated model multiplier so the pricing does not have to be inflated to cover a more expensive model.
