About OpenMarkdown

OpenMarkdown is a local-first Markdown editor with a native Rust core, built on the premise that you and your coding agent should be editing the same file at the same time. Two design goals drive it. The first is speed as a feature rather than a benchmark: a stated sub-one-second cold start and a 0.2-second click-to-window time, on the argument that an idea gives you about five seconds and a splash screen plus an update check plus a workspace sync spends all of it. Files are plain Markdown on disk with no lock-in and no account. The second goal is the agent-native part, and the most interesting piece is small: point $EDITOR at OpenMarkdown and a prompt stops living in a one-line box. You write it as a document, with structure and revisions, and closing the tab submits it — no accidental enter key firing a half-written prompt, no lost drafts. It installs as a plugin into the agent you already have — `claude plugin install`, `codex plugin install`, `gemini extensions install`, `copilot plugin install`, an opencode.json entry, or any MCP client — and the site is explicit that there is no AI inside OpenMarkdown itself, which is the point: it runs on whatever agent and model you are already paying for. It organises notes, daily notes, a wiki, projects, reading and drafts alongside an AGENT.md.
