OBSIDIAN Neural is an AI audio generation plugin that runs as VST3 or AU inside a DAW, or standalone, and it is emphatic about what it is not: not a song generator. The project's own framing draws the line against Suno and Udio directly — those write a finished track from a prompt, whereas this is a performance instrument where the musician builds a track loop by loop and the AI serves as the loop generator. Samples generate in roughly ten seconds, and the whole thing runs entirely offline on the CPU with no account and no internet connection required, which is what makes it usable on stage where network access is neither guaranteed nor trusted. Nine AI models ship with it, alongside an eight-track sampler for arranging what gets generated. The project is open source under AGPL-3.0 and developed by a single independent developer under the handle innermost47, which places it firmly in the indie category rather than the AI-music-startup one. A cloud version exists as an alternative to local CPU inference, offered with free starting credits, and the project runs an unusual scheme where users can contribute GPU capacity and earn against it. The CPU version is a one-time purchase during a limited beta.
