Manzoni is a macOS writing assistant that runs its language model entirely on the machine, and the whole product is organised around that constraint rather than treating it as a privacy footnote. It ships as two halves. The first is a distraction-free word processor whose documents are stored locally, with contextual menus that appear only when invoked. The second, and the more interesting half, is a system-wide assistant bound to a hotkey that works inside whatever application you are already typing in — no browser extension, no separate tab, no copy-paste round trip into a chat window. Pressing the key over a selection gives you summarization, feedback on the draft, synonym lookup, translation, tone changes and message replies. Because inference happens on-device via a model catalog the developer publishes, the app works with no internet connection at all, requires no signup or account, and sends nothing to a server. The intended user is someone who works on confidential documents — legal, medical, HR, unreleased product work — and therefore cannot paste text into a hosted assistant, but who still wants the assistance. It is distributed as a direct macOS download from Gems Platforms rather than through the Mac App Store.
