GetCompress is a desktop batch compressor for the files people send every day — images, video, GIFs and PDFs — and its central design decision is that every byte is processed locally, with no internet connection required. That matters more than it sounds: the usual alternative is an online compressor, and uploading a client's confidential PDF or an unreleased product screenshot to a free web service is a habit most teams have without thinking about it. GetCompress removes that step. It handles dozens of formats in both directions, converting as well as compressing: HEIC, WebP, JPEG, PNG, AVIF, PSD, TIFF, SVG and more on the image side, MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, ProRes and others for video, plus GIF, PDF and audio exports to MP3, AAC, WAV and FLAC. Reduction is typically 50 to 90 percent with quality under your control through presets, including a target-file-size preset for video when a hard cap is the constraint. The workflow features are what make it stick: compression from the Finder context menu, a mini drop zone you drag into and drag the result back out of, clipboard compression that replaces a copied file with a lighter version in place, folder monitoring that compresses anything new that lands, customisable keyboard shortcuts and reusable presets. It also ships an MCP server for local AI-assisted workflows and open-source extensions.
