FileToMD AI converts documents into clean Markdown for use in documentation, research notes, knowledge bases, publishing and AI workflows where Markdown is the ingestion format. The privacy property is the product's central claim: processing runs entirely inside the browser, so files are never uploaded to a server — which makes it usable on documents a user could not send to a cloud converter. Input coverage is broad: PDF, DOCX, XLSX, XLS, PPTX, HTML, CSV, JSON, XML, Jupyter notebooks (IPYNB), EPUB, ZIP archives and common image formats. PDF handling exposes three explicit OCR modes rather than guessing: use the existing text layer for a digital PDF, apply automatic OCR only to pages without usable text, or force recognition of every page for a fully scanned document. Extraction preserves structure — headings, paragraphs, lists, links, tables and sections — rather than flattening to plain text. The workflow ends in review: a preview lets the user check the output against the source before downloading, with individual .md files or a ZIP archive of a completed batch. Free accounts are limited on OCR runs, batch size and maximum file size; paid accounts raise the file ceiling from 10MB to 300MB and allow up to 30 files processed at once.
