Datashelter is automated backup for Linux servers, databases, VPS instances, bare metal and NAS devices, built around an index-based approach and client-side encryption. The agent — Snaper — installs in about ten minutes and handles file and database backups on a daily or hourly schedule with custom retention policies, incremental transfer, AES-256 client-side encryption and compression, so the provider never sees plaintext. Two features matter more than the schedule itself. Immutable WORM storage means a compromised server cannot delete or rewrite its own backup history, which is the failure mode ransomware actually exploits; and alerting solves the dead-man's-switch problem, with ransomware detection, anomaly detection and data integrity checks that tell you a backup stopped happening rather than leaving you to discover it at restore time. Storage is your choice: bring your own S3 bucket at no charge, or use managed storage. Server segmentation and zero-trust architecture are included at every tier, and cross-region replication and audit logs are listed as coming. There are guides and tooling for MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Synology and QNAP NAS units, and the company publishes an unusually substantial sysadmin knowledge base in English and French. Managed services are offered for teams that would rather not run it themselves. The important tier detail is that every backup feature is available on the free plan — only the number of servers changes.
