BoltAI is a native macOS client for running more than 300 AI models from one app, built with SwiftUI and AppKit rather than wrapped web views — which is the whole point for the power-user audience it targets, since it means real keyboard shortcuts, fast Apple Silicon performance and system-wide invocation from any application. You bring your own provider keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, Azure, Bedrock, Perplexity, xAI and local Ollama models, and switch between them mid-conversation without changing apps or tabs. Beyond chat it carries workflow structure most wrappers skip: projects, multi-threaded conversations, conversation forking, and reusable agents, so a long-running piece of work keeps its own context instead of collapsing into one endless thread. Multimodal input covers PDFs, screenshots, code and UI captures against vision-capable models. Generation parameters are exposed directly — temperature, max tokens, top-p and top-k, frequency and presence penalties, system instructions — rather than hidden behind presets. It extends through code execution, MCP tools and attached documents, so agents can act on local context. The licence model is the other draw: a perpetual one-time purchase with a year of updates included and optional renewal afterwards, transferable between machines, rather than a monthly subscription on top of the API costs you are already paying.
