Alice is a native desktop AI assistant for macOS, Windows and Linux that is built around a keystroke rather than a chat window. The stated positioning is precise: you use ChatGPT to research a topic or write long-form, you use Raycast to open an app in two seconds, and you use Alice when you want a reusable assistant that does a specific job on demand — summarise today's sales from a local CSV, draft a personalised outreach email from a template, run the same transformation on whatever is on screen. Because it lives in the OS rather than a browser tab, it can act on local files and the current context, and custom assistants can be built once and re-triggered indefinitely with a single keystroke, which is a different interaction model from re-prompting a chatbot each time. Version 5.0 is the current release. MCP servers are supported, so Alice can be pointed at the same tool servers a coding agent uses, and there is a Store for sharing and installing assistants plus built-in image generation. The commercial model is genuinely flexible and worth understanding before comparing prices: a subscription bundles the app with token credit for leading models — GPT-5, Sonnet 4.5, Gemini 2.5 Pro and Grok 4 — at a low base fee plus declared token burn, or you can buy the app outright as a lifetime purchase and bring your own API keys, paying providers directly. A team subscription with an administrator account starts at $10/month plus tokens. There is a 21-day trial. The download is desktop-only; the site will not serve it from a phone.
