What the Pricing Page Doesn't Tell You

Your noisiest bug sets your bill

Sentry meters events, not distinct issues. A single unhandled promise rejection firing on every page load can burn a 50K quota in days while representing exactly one bug. Inbound filtering and sampling are not optimisations here; they are cost control.

Seer is priced per person, the plan is not

The whole appeal of Sentry's pricing is unlimited users. The AI add-on breaks that model at $40 per active contributor. On a ten-engineer team, Seer is $400 a month against a $26 base plan — budget it as its own line item, not a checkbox.

Session Replay is the sneaky quota

Every paid tier includes only 50 replays by default. The promotional 5,000 free replays a month for new users runs for the first three months, which is exactly long enough to build the habit before the meter starts. Decide your sample rate during the promo, not after.

Set the spend cap before you need it

Sentry supports a maximum spend threshold and spend notifications. Turning them on takes two minutes and is the difference between a bad deploy costing you an afternoon and it costing you four figures. Advanced quota management — per-project caps — is Business-only.

What happens when I exceed my Sentry quota?

Nothing breaks, but you start paying. On Team, errors beyond the included 50,000 run $0.0003625 each from 50K–100K, dropping to $0.0002188 from 100K–500K, $0.0001875 from 500K–10M, $0.0001625 from 10M–20M and $0.00015 above 20M. Logs and application metrics beyond 5GB are $0.50 per GB, extra uptime alerts are $1.00 each, extra cron monitors $0.78, UI profiling $0.25 per hour and continuous profiling $0.0315 per hour. Set a maximum spend threshold before you turn on pay-as-you-go, not after.

Does Sentry charge per user or per seat?

No — this is the single most misunderstood thing about Sentry's pricing. Team, Business and Enterprise all include unlimited users. You pay for event volume, not headcount. That makes Sentry unusually cheap for a large engineering org with modest traffic, and unusually expensive for a two-person team running a high-volume consumer app. The one exception is Seer, which is priced per active contributor.

How long does Sentry keep my data?

The free Developer plan gives a 30-day lookback. Team extends that to up to 90 days, and Business adds additional sampled retention on top of the 90-day window. Retention rarely drives the buying decision up front, and then matters enormously the first time you need to prove when a regression actually started. If you do quarterly reliability reviews, 30 days is not enough.

Can I self-host Sentry instead of paying?

Yes. Sentry publishes a self-hosted distribution, and for a team with spare infrastructure capacity and a high event volume it can be much cheaper than the metered cloud plans. The honest trade is that you inherit the operational burden: storage growth, upgrades and the fact that your error tracker now has the same failure modes as the app it watches. Most teams who try it move back once the volume that justified it also makes the cluster painful.
