Traycer is a planning and supervision layer that sits above whichever coding agent you already pay for. Its argument is that the bottleneck in agentic coding is no longer generation but direction: an agent handed a vague instruction will confidently produce a large, plausible, wrong changeset, and the cost of that lands on the reviewer. Traycer inserts a spec-first step — you describe the change, it produces a phase plan and a set of tickets, and only then does the agent execute against that plan while Traycer tracks which parts are done and which drifted. It deliberately does not ship its own model. The free tier is bring-your-own-agent: connect Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode or anything else, and Traycer handles planning, task tracking and keeping the run on rails with no token metering and no inference credits of its own. That positioning matters for cost, because it means the planning layer does not double-charge you for inference you are already buying through a subscription. The desktop app frames itself as a nerve centre: every project's chats, artifacts, tickets, plans, execution notes and reviews live in one shared workspace, and paid tiers add cloud sync so the same workspace follows you between machines and can be shared with a team. Agent-to-agent communication is included even on the free tier.
