transcript.im converts any video or audio source into clean, timestamped text and then layers AI actions on top of the result. It accepts pasted links from YouTube, TikTok and Instagram as well as uploaded MP4, MP3 and other media files, and it is caption-first: where a platform already publishes captions, those are used before falling back to automatic speech recognition, which is both faster and more accurate than transcribing audio that has already been transcribed. Multilingual transcription is supported, and extraction works without an account. Once text exists, the AI layer offers summarisation, translation and mind-map generation across video, audio and podcast sources, plus purpose-built modes for lecture notes and meeting notes and a clean-transcript pass that strips filler. Bulk operations cover a whole YouTube channel or playlist rather than one video at a time, and subtitle generation and download are handled as separate tools. There is a documented API for automation and a Chrome extension for capturing from the browser. The free tier is unusually permissive in one direction and restricted in another: unlimited caption extraction after login plus 180 ASR minutes and 500 AI credits a month, but no cloud saving, no bulk tools, no API, and copy/download are gated — you can read a transcript free but not take it away. Sign-up is not required simply to view a transcript, which makes the tool easy to evaluate before committing.
