ShyEditor is a writing environment built specifically for novelists, and it makes a point of not being a chatbot bolted onto a text editor. The workflow runs plan, draft, revise. Planning starts from a premise: describe the book and the Story Engine drafts a synopsis and a chapter-by-chapter outline you can keep, edit or regenerate in pieces, which replaces the blank page with something to argue with. Underneath sits a knowledge base holding every character, place and event, so continuity survives as the manuscript grows — and if you are already mid-draft, importing the manuscript builds that knowledge base automatically rather than asking you to re-enter it. Drafting happens in a distraction-free markdown editor with a corkboard view, a scratchpad, notes and a file library, and pressing Tab suggests the next sentence in your voice, following the story rather than only the previous line. Revision adds editorial feedback, an intelligent grammar checker, deep research, bibliographies with in-text citations and source import, and manuscript formatting with export to TXT, Markdown, DOCX and PDF. AI usage is metered in assistant credits: twenty a month on the free tier, five hundred on Pro, alongside a jump from 100MB to 5GB of file storage.
