SciSummary summarises scientific articles and research papers, and is built specifically around the failure mode of using a general chat model for the same job. The vendor's argument is direct: a general model will produce a fluent summary of a paper while missing structure, context or citations, and a researcher cannot tell which parts were dropped. SciSummary is trained and tuned on the domain, and its output is organised the way a paper is — abstract, method, findings — so the summary can be checked against the source rather than taken on faith. Users submit papers by upload or link and receive a structured summary; there is also a ChatGPT connector for people who prefer to stay in that interface, an affiliate programme, and a tutorials section. The traction claims are specific and worth noting: over 900,000 users and more than 2.2 million papers summarised since March 2023, official AI provider status for the ACM Digital Library, coverage in Nature, and placement in university research guides at institutions including NC State, Virginia Tech and Texas Tech. Pricing is aimed squarely at students and individual researchers rather than institutions, with a free trial, a discounted student entry and an annual Pro plan that works out to a few dollars a month.
