Orkas is a desktop app that models AI assistance as a team rather than as a single chat thread. A lead agent it calls the Commander takes your instruction in plain language and directs a set of specialist agents that do the actual work, so the interaction is closer to briefing a team than to prompting a model. It runs natively on macOS, both Apple Silicon and Intel, and on Windows, with a marketplace for extending what the specialists can do. Model access is broad and includes both official models and custom ones, with explicit support for Claude Code and Codex, so existing coding-agent subscriptions can be pointed at it rather than duplicated. There is a documented security posture and a GitHub presence, and the interface is localised into Chinese, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese as well as English. The commercial model is credits, used for metered capabilities like model calls, image, video and speech generation, and it is more accommodating than most: the app is free to download and use with 500 bonus credits, subscriptions are cheap at the entry point, single months can be bought without subscribing, credits can also be bought as a one-time non-expiring lifetime balance, and Alipay is supported alongside card payment.
