Kerlig is a macOS writing assistant that works inside whatever application you are already in rather than asking you to paste text into a separate window. A global hotkey (option-space by default) opens it over any app, so proofreading a Slack reply, rewriting an email, tightening a Jira ticket or converting a blob of JSON into a TypeScript interface all happen without a context switch. It ships built-in actions — proofread, improve, summarise, shorten, simplify — and lets you write your own, including specialised personas, so recurring tasks become one keystroke. A tone-of-voice setting keeps rewrites sounding like you instead of like a model. It reads attachments, so you can chat with documents, web pages, ebooks and images, and a deep-research mode drives reasoning models through multi-step research against online sources with citations you can open. Models are entirely bring-your-own-key across more than 350 options from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Groq, Perplexity and OpenRouter, plus local execution through Apple Foundation Models, Ollama and LM Studio, which means messages go directly from your Mac to the provider and history stays encrypted locally. There is a headless mode for background actions and CLI-based deployment for teams. The licence is a one-time purchase, so the only recurring cost is your own token spend.
