JigsawStack is a set of purpose-built small AI models exposed as plain API endpoints, positioned against the habit of routing every task through a general-purpose frontier model. Instead of prompting a large LLM to do OCR, translation, web scraping, speech-to-text, sentiment classification or object detection, you call an endpoint trained for that one job — smaller, faster and materially cheaper per call, with a predictable output shape you can code against rather than a paragraph you have to parse. The billing model is the part worth studying: everything is denominated in a single token unit, and processing time counts as tokens at one millisecond to one token, so a request costs input tokens plus output tokens plus its own server-side duration. The vendor works the example arithmetic on the pricing page — an OCR call with 100 input tokens, 200 output tokens and 3,000 ms of processing is 3,300 tokens, or $0.003267 at the published rate — which makes cost forecasting straightforward across a mixed workload where every model shares one price. File uploads are not metered at all. The platform adds smart caching on the paid tier, unlimited webhooks on every tier, global deployment, and self-hosting on Enterprise for teams that cannot send data out.
