devActivity turns GitHub metadata into engineering-performance analytics, and it makes a security promise that defines the product: it never reads your source code, only Git metadata. Install the GitHub App and it derives contribution and work-quality analytics from commits, pull requests, code reviews, issues and comments — no code access, no agent to deploy. On top of that base it layers three things engineering managers usually assemble by hand: data-driven performance reviews, AI-powered retrospective insights, and operational bottleneck alerts that flag where delivery is stalling. The gamification layer is the unusual part of the offering, and the vendor leads with it rather than hiding it: XP, levels, challenges, achievements, a leaderboard and peer-recognition awards, all computed from the same event stream. It is pitched at three roles explicitly — product and technical program managers optimising process, engineering and delivery managers running teams, and the contributors themselves. Billing runs through GitHub rather than a separate card, which removes the procurement step for teams already paying GitHub. Special terms are offered to open-source projects, startups, incubators, accelerators and VCs on request, and an enterprise option runs the full premium feature set inside your own VPC on AWS, GCP or Azure. A live demo, an AI features page and a help section are published, and the vendor states plainly that no code access is required at any tier because only Git metadata is read.
