About CodeTrain
CodeTrain is a hands-on coding tutor built by Inferhaven around a deliberate constraint: it refuses to write the code for you. The problem it addresses is that as AI writes more of a codebase, the understanding behind it erodes — juniors ship features they cannot debug, onboarding still takes three to six months, and 'it works' stops meaning 'we know why'. CodeTrain teaches developers on their own codebase, one small step at a time. Point it at a repository, say what you want to learn ('how the API works', 'the auth flow'), and it builds the lesson from the code that is actually there rather than from someone else's toy examples. You type every line yourself in a real editor with an instant Run button, and every step has to run and pass — which means the output is proof of what stuck, not a completion percentage. A Socratic tutor asks, nudges, and reviews what you wrote without handing over the answer; when you are stuck it shrinks the step or reveals the next hint rather than the solution, treating failing code as the teaching moment. It also has spaced repetition: concepts you struggled with are scheduled to return at widening intervals, and one click turns a due concept into a fresh drill built from what you actually got wrong. Courses are laid out as a transit map — a course is a line, each class a stop — and you can also ask for any topic and have a lesson built on the spot. The free tier is an open-source skill on GitHub where your code never leaves your machine; Pro adds a managed tutor and, in repo mode, runs against your own checkout on 127.0.0.1 with edits landing in your real branch. Secrets and gitignored files are never read in either mode.
