Chestnut targets a problem that only exists because coding assistants got good: developers ship working code they do not fully understand, and the knowledge gap compounds silently. Rather than teaching a fixed curriculum, Chestnut watches for the concepts you struggle with while pairing with an AI assistant and generates a personalised course on exactly that topic. The example on the site is a React re-rendering lesson triggered by a search field that feels glitchy — the course explains why a component's subtree re-renders when unrelated parent state changes, shows the offending `Search.tsx`, cites two dozen sources inline, and breaks the material into chapters covering re-render logic, reducing unnecessary updates and when to reach for context.
