About BlackFlare
BlackFlare is a macOS menu bar app that closes the two gaps between an agent running and an agent being done. The first is sleep: kick off a long Claude Code or Codex task, walk away, and a dozing Mac stalls the run halfway through. BlackFlare keeps the machine awake for exactly as long as a session is running and lets normal sleep resume the moment it ends, so overnight refactors and marathon test suites actually finish. The second is notification: a session that finishes, or one that stops and waits on a permission prompt, can sit unnoticed for an hour. BlackFlare pings you the moment either happens, on the desktop or routed out to Telegram or Slack, so you can leave the machine entirely and still know within seconds when an agent needs a decision. It counts every session — the CLI in a terminal plus agents running inside VS Code and JetBrains — rather than only the foreground one. From the menu bar it also tracks usage with per-model bars and lets you switch models, permission modes and reasoning effort without going back to the terminal. Everything runs on-device. The commercial model is refreshingly plain: the menu bar status, usage tracking and model switching are free forever, desktop notifications are free for the first seven days, and one $8 payment unlocks the rest permanently on up to three Macs.
